Digital Tour
The Big World of Robots
Hello, my name is Pepper. I'm a humanoid robot who presents products, I can also be used as a service robot, for example as a caregiver, and I can even play the saxophone. You might know me from the Futurium in Berlin. My job there is to welcome visitors to the exhibition and give a short introduction.
Join me on my journey and get to know my relatives – big and small – and their talents. First, let’s see where my friends are being employed ...
Today, robots are already playing roles in medicine and care.
However, my colleagues’ arrival in the working world is not entirely uncontroversial. Quite often, that’s because people are worried about losing their jobs because of us.
In the next video, Antja will be introducing you to other places where robots are being employed, namely, in situations that are potentially dangerous for humans.
Did you know,
that a first-of-its-kind robotic vehicle was used for the first time under the ice of Antarctica in 2015? The robot had been assembled by a team of scientists and engineers from the Georgia Institute of Technology and dove more than 500 metres.
Another exciting area of application is when artificial intelligence wants to teach human intelligence something.
If robots are doing all these sorts of jobs – shouldn’t they be treated the same as humans?
All the same, don’t make the mistake of confusing robots with so-called cyborgs. A cyborg (that is, a cybernetic organism) is a mixture of human and machine. I’ll take you on a little excursion – because the topic is so exciting.
Did you know,
that the first robotics company, Unimation, was founded in 1956 by George Devol and Joseph Engelberger? It produced the first industrial robot.
Here at Futurium, you can experience robots up close. Or simply build them yourself.
And, finally, I’d like to introduce you to a very special friend of mine. Botti is the secret mascot of Futurium.
Now you’ve learned a lot about robots.
Thank you for joining me on the tour. If you would like to learn more about robots at Futurium, browse through our online exhibition. Or even better: drop by soon and visit AILA, Paro and me at Futurium. See you soon!
