Miniscule motors move the individual fingers of each hand. Sensors detect the tiniest signals coming from the muscles. Prostheses are replacing the functions of our bodies in ever more effective ways; human and machine are working together with more and more precision. Simple methods for building prostheses are still being sought all over the world. New technologies such as 3D printing could be a solution here.
But technology is also getting closer to the unimpaired body – strenuous activities can be overcome effortlessly and the human senses can be enhanced. Will new machines be able one day to make humans better than they are in their original form?
