Discovering Futurium with the New Digital Audio Guide
On 6 December, Futurium will be launching a free multimedia audio guide to enrich its visitors’ experiences as they make their way through the exhibition. They can let themselves be taken on a tour of the building’s highlights or they can select for themselves specific interactive points in the exhibition and Lab to explore on their own. Visitors can access the service as a web app by means of a QR code and use it on their own smartphones.
With the new audio guide, visits to Futurium are going to be even more multimedia-based: a guided tour will present the highlights of the exhibition in the three thinking spaces – Human, Technology and Nature – and in the Lab. The highlights tour, which lasts around 45 minutes, will guide visitors across all three floors and past 22 interactive points. Those who want to move through the exhibition or Lab more flexibly can use number markings and an interactive map to find their way around and to select specific interactive points.
Using the free service couldn’t be easier: all that’s needed is a private smartphone or tablet PC to log into Futurium’s free WLAN. By scanning a QR code, users can go directly to the web app that starts the audio guide. During the subsequent tour of the exhibition, they can either use their own headphones or hold their smartphones to their ears as if making a phone call.
"For those who would like to deepen their exhibition experience, the new web-based audio guide is the right choice."
Dr. Stefan Brandt, Director of Futurium, says:
“What’s important to us is to enhance our guests’ visits to Futurium with useful digital tools that create a clear added value for them. For those who would like to deepen their exhibition experience, the new web-based audio guide is the right choice. At the mere touch of a button, this low-threshold and easy-to-use tool provides visitors with information on content and exhibits. And with the help of the already successfully introduced digital token, they can follow up their visits to Futurium when they’re back at home or on the go. Step by step, we’re putting our concept for the Digital Futurium into practice.”
The audio guide’s web app works like a conventional website and can be accessed via Futurium’s WLAN. So it’s neither necessary to download an app nor to use mobile data. A simply designed menu enables visitors to adjust the various settings for language, contrast and the use of the interactive map. The audio guide includes a text transcription for people with hearing impairments.
Visitors to Futurium can currently take a tour of the highlights in the exhibition and Lab. New tours are already in the pipeline and will be available in the upcoming 2024. We also plan to expand the fully accessible offerings for all our visitors – including those with visual or mobility impairments – in addition to developing an audio tour for children.
