Drop-in workshop

Open Lab for Families – Our Raw Materials of the Future

Imagine if the raw materials of the future were already lying right there in our pull-out drawers! On this afternoon, we’ll be delving together into the world of “urban mining” and discovering how we can collect raw materials – sustainably and directly in our city. Many of us have old and new mobile phones at home that contain valuable sensors, metals, LEDs and rare earths. At the Futurium Lab, we’ll be examining these components in more detail.

Using motors and sensors, we’ll be developing and implementing creative ideas for the future! As a family, you can playfully create sustainable products from the components of old mobile phones. We’ll be building prototypes using the Calliope mini, Calli:bot and Wobblebots. You’ll be using Open Roberta Lab for programming. Mentors will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

This drop-in format is open and differs from traditional workshops. Our plan is for you to spend around 20 minutes in the Lab to get your first taste of the technology and the topic of the future. If it’s especially busy, it might be the case that not all participants are able to try out all the interactive points. So be flexible and take the opportunity to get involved in the exciting topics on offer!

This drop-in format is an “Open Roberta Project” in cooperation with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft for the Promotion of Applied Sciences (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.) on behalf of the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS.
